About the Academy

Our goal is to offer a high quality, academic-based alternative to traditional public and charter schools. We serve families from diverse backgrounds and make every effort to open each child’s mind to new and fun ways of learning. With the Phoenix campus limited to 250 students, and the Coolidge Campus limited to 48, each student can be served more personally. We offer a strong academic program that can be tailored to each individual student. Preparing students for high school and beyond is one of the features that set the Academy of Excellence apart from other schools. We also enjoy a family atmosphere since we can serve the entire family reaching and teaching children in grades Kindergarten through Eighth.

Parent Advisory Council
We encourage strong parental involvement in the education of their child. The purpose of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is to provide enrichment to the school experience through identifying and collaborating with parent, school and community resources, as well as fundraising. Every parent is a member and encouraged to participate. Also, parents help create an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) addressing a student’s individual talents, academic level, learning style, and strengths and weaknesses. An educational program that specifies goals and strategies is then developed for the student.
History
Academy of Excellence Charter School was founded by two former teachers, Brenda H. Nelson, BA., MA., MA. Ed. and Connie Burch, BS., M. Ed, in 1998. Mrs. Nelson remains a part of the AOE community as a Governing Board member and Special Education consultant. Our Director, Eula Saxon Dean, BS., MS., J.D., and Instruction Coordinator for the Coolidge Campus, Mrs. Sally Grubbs, BS., as well as our support staff play an extremely important role in making sure the school runs smoothly. Our very talented teaching staff has been carefully “hand picked” for their extraordinary track records of personal and professional achievement and excellence that would exemplify our mission and vision for the students of AOE.
